Easy Workout Tips for the Stay-At-Home Mom

Being a stay-at-home mom is a job that is not for the faint of heart. So many responsibilities and tasks come with the job, so it is unsurprising that most stay-at-home moms put their fitness and health goals aside to tend to their bustling families.

We encourage all moms to remember that while they all have superpower strength, it is still important to take care of yourselves by eating right and exercising. We’re sharing a few easy workout tips for the stay-at-home mom.

Workout with the family

Although your personal fitness is important, you can get a 2-for-1 deal and get the whole family moving by planning workouts for the entire family. If you’re in the house, you can use safe equipment for the kids and let them watch you work out so they can safely copy your movements. You can also do activities like bike riding, hiking, and walking.

Do research to find local family-friendly events that promote fitness for the family. NP has personally sponsored events like the Metro Move Fest, where families can participate in a 5K race, relay race, take yoga classes, and play traditional games with a fitness twist.

A pro-mom tip: Working the kids out will help them to burn energy, get tired and sleep through the night!

Workout throughout the day

While having a dedicated time block for exercising is ideal, your day may not allow a full hour, so you may need to get creative. For starters, you can do 10-minute workouts throughout the day and also make your daily tasks an opportunity to exercise. Here are a few examples:

  • Lunge to move around the house while cleaning
  • Run up the stairs when you’re grabbing the baby from a nap
  • Do five squats every time you need to bend down to pick up toys
  • Try a single-leg balance while doing dishes
  • Do a 1-minute plank while playing with kids in the play area

Find personal trainer options

Home workouts and family workouts may get you by sometimes, but there are times when you need a precise and focused workout, and it may be best to get a personal trainer where you can do in-home workouts or get out of your comfort zone and go to the gym. It’s good to get away and focus if you can squeeze that time in before school pickups and drop-offs. Some trainers are willing to do in-home workouts, so you can also sneak in a session while the children nap.

Be prepared

Athleisure wear is the official uniform for busy moms. If you juggle every element of your family’s lives, we assume you are well stocked with yoga pants, t-shirts, and Crocs. Keep a pair of running shoes with you, your Apple Watch and headphones charged, and be prepared to take advantage of small windows where you can walk, run or lift weights. The more you prepare to work out, the more likely you are to actually do it. Create the environment and habits to support your efforts.

Remember to prioritize your health because when you take care of yourself, you are more equipped and have more energy to care for the ones you love!
